Canopy Growth founds European headquarters for its medical division in Germany
Frankfurt (ots) - Canopy Growth Corporation, the world's leading cannabis company, continues its global expansion with the creation of a European headquarters for its wholly owned subsidiary Spectrum Cannabis. Spectrum Cannabis Europe will be based in Frankfurt / Main in the future, where it first entered the European market with the acquisition of MedCann GmbH Pharma und Nutraceuticals.
The aim of Spectrum Cannabis' Europe strategy was from the outset to build sustainable local production capacity to meet demand in Europe. Meanwhile, the expansion has progressed significantly. The company has its own production capacity in Denmark, a production partnership in Spain and sales capacities in Germany and the Czech Republic.
Creating a single core unit will consolidate our leading position in Europe, and a Europe-wide structure better reflects how we operate globally. As a global player, we focus not on exporting from Canada but on investment on the ground,
said Mark Zekulin , President and Co-CEO of Canopy Growth.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Pierre Debs to the role of Managing Director of Spectrum Cannabis Europe, who has been part of our development in Europe from the start and has been instrumental in building our presence and structure.
This is an extremely exciting time and I am looking forward to playing a part in developing our leadership position in Europe,
says Dr. Debs.
Markets in Europe are rapidly opening up, and we want to take this opportunity - both as a producer and as a market player - to play a leading role in educating doctors and pharmacists.
Spectrum Cannabis will continue to expand its European capabilities, focusing on high-quality production standards and education. The company will work closely with governments and regulators to bring the cannabis industry perspective to help shape meaningful and responsible regulation across the EU market.
The decision by its existing strategic partner Constellation Brands to increase its ownership position in Canopy Growth to 38 percent this week, providing the company with another $ 5 billion (€ 3.35 billion), will further accelerate European expansion.
Beyond its European activities, Spectrum Cannabis currently operates in Australia, South Africa, South America and Canada.
