David Kelley, President & CEO of Chakana Copper, gives a presentation on Chakana at the October 2020 Virtual Investor Day Conference.
Chakana Copper (TSX-V: PERU) is a Canadian junior exploration company focused on its high grade copper, gold and silver Soledad project located in the Ancash province of Peru. The property hosts multiple tourmaline breccia pipes that provide a target rich environment for drilling. Most of the pipes drilled so far have been mineralized with copper, gold and silver, including some notable high grade sections in several pipes. The company is currently engaged in a 15,000 m, fully-funded drill campaign, testing some as yet untouched targets at Soledad, including the prospective Paloma West and Paloma East breccia pipes, as well as the Huancarama breccia complex. The Soledad project as a whole is located in a very favourable mining jurisdiction in Peru, with some notable Tier 1 mine neighbours within 60 km such as Barrick Gold's Pierina gold mine and the Antamina copper/zinc mine (BHP Billiton / Glencore / Teck Resources / Mitsubishi). There is also an active zinc, lead and silver mine located immediately adjacent to the Soledad property. Roads, grid power and plentiful water are readily available and make for a very favourable infrastructure situation.
David and the Chakana team are looking to drill enough targets to generate a maiden NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate in Q1 or Q2 of 2021. The company's near-term goal is to perform initial scout drilling on several targets, identifying the most prospective areas and highest grade zones, and then following up that drilling with more focused definition and infill drilling in order to add tonnes to the eventual resource estimate. There is arguably tremendous upside on the Soledad project on various fronts, including the fact that the company has yet to find the bottom of any breccia pipe, the pipes tend to get significantly larger with depth and the company has already intersected "blind" breccia pipes (pipes that are mineralized, but don't outcrop at surface like the other pipes).
Chakana has a strong share structure, with a cornerstone investment from Gold Fields, one of the world's largest gold companies, secured in 2019 at above market prices. Management and insiders own 18% and are highly incented to see Soledad become a success. Notable institutional shareholders include well-known resource investor Rick Rule and billionaire gold bug Eric Sprott.
Chakana currently trades on the TSX Venture exchange, symbol TSX-V: PERU, on the OTCQB market under the symbol OTCQB: CHKKF, and the Frankfurt Exchange under the symbol FRA: 1ZX.
